IPOH: After three notices were issued in stages, unauthorised structures and business activities encroaching on the road reserve were finally demolished beginning Tuesday.
The Ipoh City Council (MBI) said the Phase Three operation involved 80 personnel and officers, with the cooperation of various departments and relevant agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Lembaga Air Perak (LAP).
It said the demolition operation was carried out in accordance with the stipulated standard operating procedures (SOPs), including issuing Demolition Notices under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133).
“In this case, three notices were issued in stages to the parties involved before enforcement and demolition action was taken.
“The demolition operation began on Sept 8 and will continue until the demolition and site-cleaning works are fully completed.
“On the first day, the operation began at 9 am and ended at noon, with all actions carried out in an orderly manner while taking into consideration the safety of personnel, the parties involved and members of the public,” it said in a statement on Wednesday.
MBI stressed that the enforcement action was taken to ensure compliance with the law.
It also aimed to prevent any encroachment or unauthorised construction on road reserves that could compromise safety, traffic flow and public interests.
“MBI urges all premises owners and members of the public to always obtain approval from the relevant authorities before carrying out any construction or erecting structures.
“This is especially important when involving land or reserves under the jurisdiction of the authorities.
“MBI will continue to conduct monitoring and enforcement operations to ensure development within the Ipoh City Council administrative area is carried out in an orderly and safe manner and in compliance with the prevailing laws,” it said.
