IPOH: The long-standing escalator issue at Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Ipoh station remains unresolved, with two escalators still closed for maintenance.
However, one escalator is now operational, providing some relief for passengers using the station.
A passenger, Azhar Mohd Hasyim, 45, said passengers travelling from Platforms 2 and 3 could now use the escalator to go up.
However, he said passengers needing to go down to Platform 1 still had to use the stairs as the escalator remained out of service.
“If passengers take the commuter train to Platforms 2 and 3, they can use the escalator to go up.
“But when going down to Platforms 2 and 3, there is no escalator available, and passengers have to use the stairs,” he said.
According to Azhar, the situation was particularly inconvenient for elderly passengers who had to carry belongings or move between platforms.
He urged the relevant authorities to expedite maintenance work on the remaining escalator to ensure the facility could be fully operational.
“The escalator issue at KTM Ipoh has been going on for a long time and should be resolved as soon as possible for the convenience of all passengers.
“This is especially important for elderly passengers who may face difficulties using the stairs,” he said.
