IPOH – The increasing cases of cable theft and vandalism are raising concerns not only over public safety but also over disruptions to telecommunication services.
In response, the Perak State-Level Awareness Programme on Vandalism and Telecommunication Network Cable Theft provided valuable exposure on the issue.
The programme was organised by the Perak State Network Integrity and Security Committee at the Banquet Hall, Perak State Secretariat Building.
Held under the portfolio of the Perak State Executive Councillor for Communications, Multimedia and NGOs, the programme aimed to raise awareness of vandalism and telecommunication cable theft.
It was conducted in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Perak State Office, Digital Perak, the police and telecommunication service providers.
Digital Perak also delivered a briefing on the state government’s role in addressing cable theft and vandalism involving telecommunication infrastructure.
The briefing was delivered by Telecommunication Infrastructure Coordinating Agency (APIT) Manager, Ts. Mohd Nor Hilmy Nd Dali.
Representatives from local authorities, mukim penghulus and chairpersons of Village Development and Security Committees from across Perak also attended the programme.
The programme served as a platform to strengthen cooperation between the state government, enforcement agencies and telecommunication service providers.
Efforts to raise public awareness are expected to help curb vandalism and cable theft, which affect communication facilities and telecommunication services.
Earlier, the programme was officiated by Perak State Executive Councillor for Communications, Multimedia and NGOs, Mohd Azlan Helmi Helmi.
Also present were Perak State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) members and special officers to the Menteri Besar for the respective constituencies.
