IPOH: Ipoh White Coffee has ranked 10th out of 39 best coffees in the world listed by the TasteAtlas website.

According to the Mayor of Ipoh, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, this ranking was based on assessments by TasteAtlas users.

He explained that the ranking employed a series of mechanisms that recognized real users while disregarding assessments from nationalists, or local patriots.

“Through this website, Ipoh White Coffee is listed as one of the popular coffee products among global communities.

“The beverage secured the 10th spot in the list of the 39 Best Coffees in the World, which was published on March 15.

“The coffee that claimed the top spot on this list is the Espresso Freddo from Greece, which combines espresso and ice to give it a slightly chilled and creamy texture,” he said.

He said this  during a press conference at the Full Council Meeting of the Ipoh City Council in the meeting hall here today.

Among the other top 10 listed coffees are Espresso Freddo (Greece), Café Cubano (Cuba), Indian Filter Coffee (India), Freddo Cappuccino (Greece), Café Bombon (Spain), Cappuccino (Italy), Turkish Coffee (Turkey), Ristretto (Italy), and Frappe Coffee (Greece).

The ’30 Best Coffees in the World’ list compiled a total of 3,878 assessments, of which only 2,559 were recognized as valid by the system.

“TasteAtlas also states that the purpose of this list is to promote quality local foods, instill pride in traditional dishes, and arouse curiosity about dishes you haven’t tried yet.

“According to Asian Inspiration, Ipoh White Coffee originates from Ipoh, Malaysia, and the coffee beans are roasted in margarine before being ground and brewed to produce a smoother, caramel-like coffee drink,” he added.

Rumaizi said that the beverage is typically served with condensed milk and topped with a light froth.

However, he clarified that this beverage is not like other types of white coffee, which generally refer to any coffee served with added milk or creamer.
