A blood donation drive was launched by Dato’ Dr Mah Hang Soon, Executive Councillor for Health, at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun recently. This is the third consecutive year the hospital is running the campaign where donors are encouraged to donate blood at night. Donors will be rewarded according to the frequency of donations. Those who donated more than 16 times will be given free outpatient treatment for two years. The privileges get better the more the donor donates.
Donors should not focus on the privileges alone, said Mah. They should take pride in the knowledge that their blood has been given to deserving people in the hospital. Patients who need blood will receive the required type and amount regardless of race, assured the executive councillor.
Hospitals in Perak received over 51,000 donors in 2010. Last year the number exceeded the 53,000-mark. “The number is set to increase this year,” Mah told reporters.
For the fasting month of Ramadan, Muslim donors can donate their blood between 8.30pm to 10.00pm from Tuesday to Thursday. Make a date with Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Ipoh.
