SMJK Yuk Choy Building Fund

In an effort to convert the two-session school into a single session, SMJK Yuk Choy, Ipoh is planning to build a four-storey teaching block containing 16 classrooms and a multipurpose hall, the size of six badminton courts, attached. The targeted amount to be raised is RM10 million.

Thus, a 55th anniversary cum building fund charity dinner will be held on Saturday, November 4 to support the cause. To be held at the Kinta Riverfront Hotel ballroom at 7pm, each seat is priced at RM100, RM300 and RM500, respectively. Attendees are encouraged to wear uniforms of their times, just like going back to school again. Get your tickets now by calling 016 531 2657.

  • RM1000 and above – participation in the lighting ceremony + two dinner tickets
  • RM5000 and above – participation in the lighting ceremony + four dinner tickets
  • RM10,000 and above – participation in the gong-hitting ceremony + four VIP tickets
  • RM50,000 and above – participation in the drum-hitting ceremony + 10 VIP tickets
  • RM100,000 and above – participation in the drum-hitting ceremony + 20 VIP tickets

“A single session will allow us to have the afternoon for all types of co-curriculum activities or even additional tuition classes for those who need it. It’ll give us the flexibility,” Datuk Kwan Foh Kwai, chairman of board of governors explained during a press conference on Tuesday, August 15.

Present was Jimmy Leong Chee Chong, the president of the Yuk Choy Alumni Association.

An old roof tile of the school, imported from France dated over 80 years, will be presented as a souvenir for those who donate RM1000 and above. Do take note that only 2000 pieces are available.  Meanwhile, those who donate RM100,000 will have a classroom named after them.

Also part of the fundraising, the school is having a banner-signature campaign from now till December 15. It is an attempt at getting into the Malaysia Book of Records for the most number of signatures on the 225-feet long banner to be placed at the perimeter wall of the school. Being the oldest Chinese school in Perak, currently there are about 1300 students attending the morning session and over 200, the afternoon session.
