Upgrading Taiping

The Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) allocated over RM11 million to upgrade the city via numerous development projects.

Council President, Dato’ Abdul Rahim MD Ariff said that the huge allocation would realise the council’s mission of turning Taiping into the ultimate heritage and tourism destination.

“The council has undertaken upgrading and renovation works at Taiping Zoo and Night Safari, old bungalows, water-treatment system and signage which are essentially Taiping’s ecotourism cluster promotional materials.

“I wish to thank Tourism Perak Management Berhad, Northern Corridor Implementation Authority and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia for being the main fund contributors towards the development of Taiping.

“I am confident that after the completion of these upgrading works, Taiping will be able to attract more tourists from in and out of the country,” he told Ipoh Echo during the Teh Tarik Session 2018 programme at Taiping Perdana Hotel on Thursday, March 29.

According to Abdul Rahim, the council will focus on six anchor tourism products to strengthen its tourism sector.

“We received full support from various public and private agencies to collectively market the main touristic products at all levels, local and international.

“The six main products are Taiping Zoo & Night Safari, Bukit Larut, Taiping Lake Gardens, Taiping Heritage Trail, Kamunting Lake Gardens and Perak Botanical Gardens,” he said after presenting certificates of appreciation to the selected tourism agencies and players.

The tea session was organised by the council. Some 150 participants, consisting of tourism agencies and players from all over the country, were in attendance.

The Chairman of Sabah Parks, Dato’ Seri Dr Tengku Zainal Adlin Tengku Mahamood spoke eloquently about his experience in the Sabah tourism industry.
