Four Temporary Relief Centres Established Due to Floods

Continuous rain for two consecutive days recently has resulted in flooding at five villages, forcing a few affected households to be moved to temporary relief centres (PPS).

According to Tualang Sekah assemblyperson (ADUN) Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi who’s also the Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government, Public Transportation and Tourism, the disaster was caused by non-stop downpour and water overflow from nearby rivers.

“All affected areas have been identified for immediate action. The flooding in Kampung Jeram is a result of water overflow that is no longer contained by the river. Thus, the riverbank needs to be modified to prevent flooding like this from happening in the future.

“For the flooding in Kuala Dipang, in the short run, additional water pumps have been maintained to reduce water overflow. In the long run, drains will be built and automatic water pumps will be installed completely by June this year.”

She commented so at Kuala Dipang yesterday (January 4).

Some areas which were flooded include Kampung Pulau Pisang involving 15 houses, Kampung Batu 20 involving three, Kampung Nyor involving one, Kampung Baru Kuala Dipang involving five and Kampung Jeram involving 10.

Four PPS were established at Gopeng Town Hall, Kampung Jeram Community Hall, Dato’ Azman Mahalan Hall and Batu 20 Community Hall.

Yesterday, eleven families involving 26 victims were placed in the PPS at Dato’ Azman Mahalan Hall.

Meanwhile, Nolee Ashilin added that she’ll channel aid from the ADUN service centre to be contributed to the flood victims.

“We’re in the midst of identifying all involved victims that are registered under the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

“We’ll request for the list of affected victims that have yet to register through the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) in order for us to present some assistance to the victims,” she noted.
