MD2 Pineapple Plantations to Boost Local Economy

The Perak State Agricultural Development Corporation (PPPNP) will soon be creating entrepreneurs in sectors of agro-farming, livestock and food industries relating to agriculture.

According to the Executive Councillor for Rural Development, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Dato’ Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin, some 400 entrepreneurs are targeted for year 2021, benefitting 1,000 family members.

“52 participants will be involved in the MD2 Pineapple Agrofarm Boost Project (PEMACU-TANI) at Gugusan Ladang Lambor and Perak Agrotourism Resort (PATRO) Sungai Galah.

“30 participants will be directly involved in the planting of pineapples at the 60-acre wide land in Gugusan Ladang Lambor, while 22 are for the same project happening at the 44-acre-wide land in PATRO Sungai Galah.

“Each participant will be given a two-acre-wide land to be operated via contract farming, whereby appointed leading companies will supervise and provide instructions relating to farming techniques.

“Farming produce will be repurchased by the said companies on an agreed price to guarantee income, sales and market of the pineapples,” he told reporters after a work visit to the Integrated Pineapple and Kenaf Plantation at Gugusan Ladang Lambor recently.

Besides leading parties, PPPNP will also be working hand-in-hand with Agrobank, especially in funding aspects for participants selected for the project.

Those interested to join the project may contact the Entrepreneur’s Unit of PPPNP for more information.
