Three individuals were arrested for encroachment activities at a section of Compartment 62 of the Bubu Forest Reserve in Kinta/Manjung Forest District on Friday (June 4).

“The arrests were made at around 5.30pm during an operation by the Beruas Forest Ranger Office, where the suspects were found clearing lands by cutting down trees.

“A backhoe, a Modenas motorcycle, a chainsaw and a parang were seized during the operation and brought to the State Forestry Department (JPNPk)’s storage for confiscated goods in Pusing.

“All suspects were brought to the Manjung District Police Headquarters (IPD) to facilitate further investigation and were subsequently released on police bail after their statements were recorded.

“They are subject to offences under Section 81(1)(b) and 81(1)(e) of the National Forestry Act 1984 (Adoption) Enactment 1985.

“Under Section 81(1)(b), punishment entails a fine of up to RM50,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, if convicted.

“Under Section 81(1)(e), punishment entails a fine of up to RM10,000 or imprisonment of up to three years, or both, if convicted.

“However, investigations are ongoing and will be presented to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further actions,” JPNPk explained in a statement dated today (June 6).
