Garbage Collection Issue to be Addressed

Garbage collection has recently become the most commonly discussed issue among Ipohites. That said, the Ipoh City Council (MBI) is determined to tackle the problem as soon as possible.

Ipoh Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud said the issue was due to the management of the concession company.

“There are currently two concessions for garbage collection services in the city employed by the MBI.

“Concession companies have reported to be facing staff shortage as their employees have been infected with COVID-19.

“Although MBI has rescheduled the domestic garbage collection service to twice a week since September 20, it has still caused dissatisfaction among the community and even within the Council,” he told Peraktastic at the Blood Donation and E-Waste Collection Programme at Dewan Dato’ Ahmad Said, Kampung Sungai Rokam, today (October 10).

According to Rumaizi, to overcome the problem, MBI plans to use 10 new garbage trucks scheduled to arrive at the end of this month to carry out collection work in the affected areas.

“MBI has hired a total of 100 local workers on a contract basis to enhance garbage collection around the city.

“We will also impose penalties on the concession companies involved for failing to carry out the garbage collection work as scheduled until they operate as usual again,” he said.
