Yuk Choy High School ‘ArtScience’ Art Exhibition held at Tin Alley

by KT Leong

Tin Alley hosted the ‘ArtScience’ art exhibition last weekend, featuring the works of students and teachers from Yuk Choy High School.

A brief lion dance preceded the opening ceremony, which began at approximately 7 pm on November 26. Among the speakers during the ceremony was Mr. Tan Kai Lek, the owner and proprietor of the Happy 8 Retreat chain of boutique hotels, which have locations throughout Perak.

A man with a passion for art, heritage and beauty, he played his part in bringing about this art exhibition to the public, which showcases the works of the students and teachers from Yuk Choy.

In his speech, he talked about how he hoped that this event would help in the cultivation of arts and culture, as well as contribute to the tourism of Ipoh.

An incredible drum performance was held by the students, before the event was officially opened and the various guests signed their signatures on specially provided bricks on the walls of Tin Alley.

With the opening ceremony complete, visitors freely visited the many pieces of art within the walls of Tin Alley. Hung from racks, there was a huge myriad of art styles available for viewing. From more conventional and traditional art, like landscapes, still-life or simply the beauty of nature itself, to modern images like robots, anime characters from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and even some manga-style panel art. There were sketch portraits, contemporary graffiti art style paintings and even knitted fabric art. On top of that, there is the Brick Art wall, whereby each of the nearly century old bricks have been painted on and laid on the wall running along Tin Alley.
