The appointment of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th Prime Minister from the Tambun Parliamentery seat is expected to not only bring development to the city of Ipoh but throughout Perak as well.

The hope was voiced by the mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud, who is optimistic that many plans will be drawn up for the sake of progress in the city of Ipoh in particular.

“It is historic for the state of Perak and the city of Ipoh in particular, in my opinion the appointment will certainly have an impact on everyone.

“Taking the example of the previous Prime Minister from Pahang, where of course, there was an impact there. Also, previously in Perak there was also a Deputy Prime Minister from Bagan Datuk and there was an impact there.

“The same goes for the Prime Minister from Johor and Kedah. I hope the impact that comes to the city of Ipoh is not just here but extends to the whole of Perak,” he said.

Rumaizi was met by reporters at a press conference after the November Council Plenary Meeting at the MBI Meeting Hall, on Wednesday.

He said this to reporters in commenting on Anwar’s appointment as Prime Minister.

The city of Ipoh now has another new status whereby it can be called the Prime Minister’s City following the appointment of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the country’s number one leader.

This is because Anwar is a Member of Parliament for Tambun which is a parliamentary seat within the city of Ipoh.

It is a new notch to its history as there has not been any Prime Minister of the country representing an area within the city.

Meanwhile, he said Perak can take bigger steps after the appointment, with more investment coming into the state.

“When talking about the Prime Minister, Perak should be bigger. For example, when the Prime Minister was from Kedah, one of the biggest investments in our country came from there.

“We hope it will have the same effect in Perak where it will be the highest investment area in Malaysia. Because the Prime Minister is not only from Tambun, Ipoh but can also help the whole of Perak,” he added.
