Three members of a family including a child, died while three others were injured in a road accident involving two vehicles at Tengku Permaisuri Bainun Bridge, Sitiawan late last night.
It is understood that the incident that happened at about 11 pm involved a Proton Saga and a Chevrolet car.
A spokesman for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Perak said there were five victims from the Proton Saga car, three of whom died at the scene of the incident and two others were injured.
While a female victim from a Chevrolet car was injured.
“The fire department received a call regarding the incident at 11.13 pm and members from the Sitiawan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) rushed to the location.
“The accident involved two vehicles and caused 80 percent of the Chevrolet type car to burn.
“It is believed that the five victims from the Proton Saga are family related, a married couple and a boy died, while a boy and a girl were injured.
“A female victim from the Chevrolet was also injured, and all of them were not trapped. The identity and relationship of all the victims are under investigation by the police,” said in a statement early Saturday morning.
The statement said that the firemen then gave initial treatment to the victims and handed over the deceased to the police for further action.
The injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) for further treatment.
The operation led by PKPgB Mohd Azizi Zakaria ended at 12.53 midnight.
