By Rosli Mansor Ahmad Razali

Ipoh – The Ipoh City Council (MBI) has taken firm action to ensure that school canteen operators comply with food preparation procedures to ensure the safety of students.

The Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, emphasized the importance of food safety awareness among school students, not only to educate them about choosing clean and nutritious food but also for their safety and health.

“The Council has established requirements for all food handlers to wear aprons, hats, and shoes, and to practice hands-free techniques when handling food.

“To enhance the cleanliness of food preparation premises, they must have specialized knowledge as food handlers,” he told reporters during the MBI School Environmental Cleanliness and Health Campaign at the Aspiration Hall of SMK Raja Chulan, Ipoh, recently.

Simultaneously, a briefing on school environmental cleanliness, especially toilet cleanliness, was conducted to prevent and control dengue in the school environment, along with information related to the Vector Control Unit’s activities, MBI.

According to Rumaizi, SK Convent received first-place recognition for clean public toilets in the 2021/2022 primary school category, representing the Ipoh City Council.

“This recognition will serve as a benchmark for other schools to maintain the cleanliness of school toilets, aligning to elevate Public Toilets to a BMW (Clean, Beautiful, Fragrant) standard.

“To improve the level of cleanliness and maintenance of school toilets, the Ministry of Education Malaysia has introduced the School Toilet Cleanliness Rating Program (PKTS) starting this year, in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government Development,” he said.
