IPOH: The severely damaged, pothole-filled road near Persiaran Klebang, around IGB Tasek, here, can be compared to the surface of the moon.
Not only is it a frequent site of accidents involving motorcyclists, but it also causes significant damage to many vehicles.
Even more hazardous, when it rains heavily and some of the large potholes are covered by water, those unfamiliar with the area are likely to drive into them.
Ipoh Echo and Peraktastic sought feedback from locals in the area.
According to Ooi Thian Shen, the road is regularly resurfaced, but the damage recurs due to the frequent passage of lorries and trailers to the nearby industrial area.
He also claimed that the situation worsened recently after Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) dug up the road to install streetlight poles.
“As a workshop owner here, I’ve witnessed numerous accidents in front of my shop, with both motorcycles and cars damaged due to the large potholes.
“This issue has been ongoing for a long time, even when the road is resurfaced, vehicles pass before the asphalt has fully set, causing it to break down again.
“Many motorcyclists have fallen, and many car engines have been damaged, including leaks under the car and other issues. This situation is really serious,” he said.
Meanwhile, another local business owner in the area stated that he had witnessed many accidents here.
Several of the potholes urgently need repair.
“Cars and motorcycles have to avoid these potholes carefully. For light vehicles, it’s particularly dangerous,” he said.
Given the depth of the potholes, it is clear that local authorities should address the issue by repairing and resurfacing the road properly. More importantly, a sustainable solution should be considered to prevent the road from deteriorating again, ensuring public safety.
