PCSH Celebrates 120 Years, Continues to Provide Affordable Healthcare Services

IPOH: The Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH) remains committed to providing quality healthcare at lower rates compared to other private hospitals, which is in line with its mission as a non-profit institution.

Dato’ Lee Hau Hian, President of the Perak Chinese Maternity Association, said that while PCSH does charge for its services, its rates remain below the limits set by the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1988.

“For patients who cannot pay in full, we have a Welfare Fund to review their applications and help cover part of their medical bills.

“Any surplus from operations is reinvested into purchasing medical equipment and upgrading our facilities. However, we still rely on donations from philanthropists and the community to support vital capital expenditure projects for the hospital’s development,” he said in his speech during PCSH’s 120th Anniversary celebration at Kinta Riverfront Hotel & Suite last night.

The event was also attended by Perak Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad, Ipoh Mayor, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, and PCSH Board of Directors member, Dato’ Lim Si Boon.

Hau Hian stressed that PCSH’s century-long journey would not have been possible without the support of various parties, especially in facing the challenges of the growing medical sector.

“PCSH started as a free maternity home and has now grown into a multi-disciplinary hospital with 85 specialist consultants and doctors across various fields.

“We are deeply grateful to all our donors for their contributions, including an ambulance, new medical equipment, and funds to build our new main building, which opened in July 2022 and is named ‘Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng Building.’ This six-story building replaces the old building, which had been in use since 1939.

“The new building is equipped with additional patient rooms, 26 new consultant suites, an Imaging Centre named after the late Dato’ K.K. Lim, and a Pharmacy named in honour of Mr Leong Win Hon. These names are memorialized as a tribute to past donors whose families continue to support us,” he said.

PCSH also plans several new projects, including an Emergency & Trauma Unit, an Intensive & Critical Care Unit, and a fifth-floor patient ward offering value-added services.

“We greatly appreciate the support from the Perak community, local authorities, philanthropists, doctors, nurses, and all hospital staff. It is this support that enables PCSH to continue its social mission of providing quality healthcare at affordable rates.

“PCSH is now ready to move forward as a modern healthcare institution that remains committed to prioritizing the community’s needs,” he added.
