Immigration arrests 28 illegal immigrants in Ipoh

IPOH: A total of 28 illegal immigrants were arrested in an operation conducted by the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) in the state of Perak, around the Kinta district.

According to the Director, Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik, the Ops Sapu operation was carried out at 10 premises here from Tuesday night until Wednesday morning.

He stated that the raids were made following complaints and prior monitoring.

“11 JIM officers were involved in this operation, with 51 people, consisting of Malaysians and various foreign nationals, being inspected.

“A total of 28 foreign nationals were arrested as they were reasonably suspected of committing offenses under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.

“The detainees consist of 16 men, 11 women, and one child, with an estimated age range of 10 to 55 years,” he said.

He added that all the foreign nationals were detained at the Ipoh Immigration Depot for investigation and further action under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

This section concerns entering and staying in Malaysia without a valid pass.

In addition, Section 15(1)(c) of the same act pertains to staying in Malaysia after the expiration of a valid pass issued.

There were also offenses under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, which involves violating the conditions of the issued pass.
