‘Bamboo: A Sustainable Solution for Green Landscape’ recognised at MLAA

IPOH:The project ‘Bamboo: A Sustainable Solution for Green Landscape’, implemented by the Ipoh City Council (MBI), has received recognition at the 15th Malaysia Landscape Architecture Awards (MLAA).

Through this initiative, bamboo is promoted as a sustainable alternative material, not only used in landscape furniture but also integrated with shade tree planting. This aims to enhance carbon absorption, increase urban biodiversity, and reduce the impact of the urban heat island phenomenon in city areas.

“MBI, through its Department of Parks and Landscape, has been awarded the Honour Award under the Green Initiatives Award – Government Sector category.

“This recognition reflects MBI’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the implementation of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in sustainable and holistic urban landscape development,” MBI said in a statement today.

According to MBI, landscape design approaches today go beyond aesthetics and now encompass ecological function and environmental responsibility.

“This shift is driven by growing public awareness of climate change issues, biodiversity loss, and the need for development that is in balance with nature,” it added.

The award was presented by former president of the Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM), Datuk LAr. Ismail Ngah, in recognition of MBI’s active role in championing comprehensive and progressive nature-based landscape approaches aligned with the national landscape aspirations.

“The MBI management extends its highest appreciation and congratulations to all department members, strategic partners, and the community for their support and teamwork that made this achievement possible.

“May this success serve as a catalyst for MBI’s continued efforts in realising the vision of Ipoh as a Smart and Prosperous City by 2030,” the statement concluded.
