IPOH: A road shoulder along Jalan Lasam has been illegally paved and converted into a makeshift parking area, raising serious concerns over road safety, particularly at the junction where visibility is critical.
Frequent road user Yazri Hamzah, 45, expressed frustration over the actions of certain individuals who allegedly paved over the shoulder despite the presence of ‘No Parking’ signs.
“The move is not only suspicious but also obstructs traffic flow and endangers other motorists. What’s worse is that they even placed cones to mark the area,” he said when contacted by Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic.
“When vehicles are parked along the left-side shoulder, it blocks the view of motorists exiting the Jalan Lasam junction. I nearly collided with a car coming from the left because I couldn’t see it in time,” he added.
According to Yazri, the situation has worsened since the opening of a new recreational court in front of Jalan Lasam. Traffic congestion now builds up, especially during the evening hours when cars are lined up along the shoulder.
He also questioned whether the local authority had approved the paving of the shoulder — the Ipoh City Council (MBI).
“I hope MBI will look into this matter. It clearly poses a danger and could potentially lead to accidents at the junction,” he stressed.
