Nostalgia Carnival in Old Papan Town: Celebrate Culture, Heritage, and Memories

IPOH: The fourth edition of the nostalgic carnival “Hari Retro Pekan Lama Papan” is set to return on 13 and 14 September, bringing with it a vibrant atmosphere full of color and cherished memories. The event will take place in the historic setting of Old Papan Town.

This eagerly awaited event highlights the spirit of patriotism and Malaysian unity, while also celebrating the local history and culture through a wide variety of engaging activities. With the theme “Tracing Memories, Weaving Unity”, the carnival is expected to attract thousands of visitors from all walks of life who are keen to revisit and relive the memories of days gone by.

A visit to Old Papan Town during this carnival offers a unique opportunity to experience the art, culture, and heritage of the local community. Visitors are warmly encouraged to dress in retro or vintage-style outfits to further enhance the nostalgic atmosphere.

Among the highlights of the carnival are classic elements such as antique car exhibitions, live historical reenactments, retro fashion shows, and traditional tin mining demonstrations. Local heritage will also be showcased through exhibits of traditional village houses from the New Villages, guided heritage tours, historical document displays, and screenings of classic films—providing the younger generation with valuable insight into their cultural roots.

The arts and culture segment will feature cultural parades, traditional Cantonese singing, handicraft exhibitions, photography competitions, and lively street performances, turning the village into a vibrant open-air stage. Family-friendly activities such as horse riding and traditional games will offer a fun yet educational experience for both children and adults.

Adding a meaningful community touch, the event will also include charity sales by school students and free street haircuts, emphasizing the values of social care and community spirit.

The program is supported by the Batu Gajah District Council, the Office of the Member of Parliament for Batu Gajah, and the Perak Heritage Association.
