IPOH: The public is reminded to be extra cautious following a recent rise in reported influenza infections.

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a viral infection that affects the respiratory system, including the nose, throat, and lungs.
This illness spreads easily, especially among children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
An increase in cases has been detected in several areas, and the virus has the potential to spread rapidly if preventive measures are not taken.
People are advised to practise good personal hygiene, such as covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, washing hands frequently, and avoiding crowded places if experiencing respiratory symptoms.
Common symptoms of influenza include sudden fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, extreme fatigue, and in some cases, it can lead to serious complications like pneumonia.
Anyone experiencing symptoms is encouraged to seek immediate treatment at the nearest clinic or hospital. The influenza vaccine is also available as a preventive measure and is highly recommended, especially for high-risk groups.
At the same time, institutions such as schools and workplaces are urged to take precautionary steps, including monitoring the health of students and staff, to prevent the spread of the virus.
