LUMUT: More than 10,000 visitors flocked to the Navy Fleet Open Day 2026 at the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) base in Lumut here, as the event officially kicked off in full ceremonial style.

The Fleet Day 2026 is held in conjunction with the RMN’s 92nd anniversary celebrations.

Earlier, Perak Crown Prince Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa graciously officiated the Lumut Navy City Parade at Dataran Lumut.

The parade drew an estimated 3,000 visitors who gathered to witness the event.

A total of 21 contingents took part, including security forces, local authorities and youth NGOs.

The event provided the public with an opportunity to better understand the RMN’s role in safeguarding the nation’s maritime sovereignty.

Apart from the parade, the Fleet Day 2026 celebrations, which run from Friday to Sunday, also feature public visits to warships docked at the RMN jetty in Lumut.

It also aims to strengthen ties between the RMN and the public through various organised activities.

Meanwhile, several visitors expressed excitement at the opportunity to see and learn more about the RMN up close.

Civil servant Syafinaz Ahmad Dahari, who travelled from Shah Alam, said she took the opportunity over the weekend to visit Lumut specifically for the event.

She said the visit also served as an educational experience for her children on the RMN, while also spending time exploring attractions in Sitiawan.

“Since there was a wedding in Lumut, I took the opportunity to bring my family here.

“This is my first time entering the RMN Lumut Base, and it is very large and modern,” she said.

For a visitor from Penang, Alex Iskandar Sulaiman, the RMN Fleet Day is a major event, especially for maritime enthusiasts like him.

He said one of the main highlights was KD Maharaja Lela, which was fully built in Lumut.

“My friends and I were excited to see the ship even though visitors were not allowed to board it.

“It shows the capability of local engineering in building a modern naval vessel,” he said.
