Roof leak at Kampar Hospital emergency department caused by storm, services unaffected

By Rosli Mansor Ahmad Razali

KAMPAR: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that hit Kampar on May 23 caused leaks in several sections of the roof and ceiling at the Emergency and Trauma Department of Kampar Hospital, resulting in water seepage and a temporary power disruption.

However, Kampar Hospital said operations at the Emergency and Trauma Department continued as usual, and patient services were not affected.

In a statement today, the hospital said the incident is believed to have occurred at about 4pm following severe weather conditions in the area.

“The heavy rain and strong winds caused leaks in several parts of the roof and ceiling, leading to water overflow within the facility.

“As a result of the incident, a temporary power supply disruption also occurred at the affected location,” the statement said.

The hospital said its technical team undertook immediate remedial action upon receiving reports of the incident to ensure hospital operations and patient care services remained uninterrupted.

Preliminary inspections found that the incident was likely caused by damage to the roof structure, which cracked under the impact of the heavy rain and strong winds.

In addition, parts of the roof structure were also found to have sustained damage believed to have been caused by wildlife intrusion, contributing to the leaks during the downpour.

Despite the incident, services at the Emergency and Trauma Department remained fully operational and patient treatment was not disrupted.

The hospital reiterated its commitment to prioritising the safety, comfort and well-being of patients, visitors and staff.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and take the necessary measures from time to time,” the statement added.
