Rotary Club of Greentown Induction Ceremony

The Rotary Club of Greentown (RCG) inducted four new members, namely Sumaan Aulikh, Dr Haemawathy, Dr Tanesh Kumar and Aniljeet Singh.

The ceremony was held at Excelsior Hotel late evening yesterday (April 20).

Also present to witness the induction were the President of RCG, Rita Olikh and District Governor (DG) Teoh Kwan Swee.

Sumaan (who’s also Rita’s daughter) is a tertiary student majoring in psychology, while Aniljeet is an audiologist. Both Haemawathy and Tanesh are general practitioners (GP).

According to DG Teoh, the Rotary International’s theme of the year is ‘Rotary Opens Opportunities’.

“Rotary Club members (commonly known as Rotarians) have endless opportunities to connect with around 1.2 million other Rotarians around the world.

“This is a great platform to network, reach out, volunteer in meaningful causes, build friendships and/or to change someone’s life, even for self-development or to improve leadership skills,” he said in his speech.

Only in her early 20s, Sumaan, who is also the youngest member to be inducted to Rotary International District 3300 (Malaysia), plans to combat the stigma of mental illnesses.

“I’ve seen how Rotarians assist not only each other but also the community, through thick and thin. Thus, I’d like to thank my mother (Rita) for the exposure towards programmes by the Club.

“Hopefully, by sacrificing the ‘me’ for the ‘we’, we’re able to deal with mental health issues effectively, even more so through the Rotary Club,” she expressed.
