Careless Attitude Towards Rubbish Disposal Repeats at Lebuh Rapat Baru 18A

By Zaki Salleh

IPOH: The problem of illegal waste dumping continues to recur as irresponsible individuals have once again been found discarding various types of rubbish—including old mattresses—by the roadside of Lebuh Rapat Baru 18A, Taman Song Choon.

An inspection revealed that the area has once again become a target for those who take domestic waste management lightly, turning public spaces into dumping grounds.

Items found at the site include household garbage bags and plastic bags filled with dried leaves, believed to have been left there by cleaning workers.

Although it is understood that the dried leaves are scheduled to be collected by another team within a certain time frame, local residents consider leaving them there for too long as inappropriate and likely to create negative perceptions.

“If left too long, it looks like a dumping site.

“Eventually, others will start dumping all sorts of things there too,” said one resident, Kelvin Chee.

Residents hope for more regular monitoring and stricter action against illegal dumpers. They also urge cleaning workers not to use the roadside as a prolonged temporary dumping spot.

The issue of open waste dumping not only ruins the visual landscape but can also become a breeding ground for pests and contribute to environmental pollution.

Local authorities are urged to install warning signs and increase patrols in high-risk areas to curb this irresponsible habit from spreading further.
