TAIPING: Once busy in the field as a journalist, Ani Awang has now chosen to venture into stingless bee farming as a way to produce high-quality honey.

The former journalist for a local newspaper took up this new career after retiring. He operates a stingless bee farm in his hometown of Bukit Gantang.

According to Ani, stingless bee honey is in demand due to its natural properties that help boost the immune system through its content of vitamins, minerals, and probiotics.

He explained that these benefits make stingless bee honey a preferred choice for individuals seeking additional health support using locally sourced ingredients.

Ani further elaborated that the honey’s thinner texture and slightly acidic nature also help improve digestive functions.

“Preliminary studies have shown that stingless bee honey may help lower bad cholesterol (LDL) while increasing good cholesterol (HDL), thereby improving blood circulation and having a positive effect on blood pressure.

“However, experts emphasise that stingless bee honey is not a substitute for medical treatment and should be used as a supplementary health support,” he said.

He added that although stingless bee honey has a slightly tangy-sweet taste different from regular honey, its demand continues to grow, including among patients seeking natural dietary options.

“Stingless bee honey remains one of the local products popular for its unique taste and widely recognised health benefits.

“For those interested in trying it, you can contact me at 013-4307026. The price is RM60 per bottle, with a net weight of 360 grams,” he said.
