IPOH: After more than 20 years of service, the Pink Champion Perak (PPCP) remains a pillar of support for breast cancer patients in Perak, while continuing to raise public awareness on the importance of early detection.
The association marked its 20th anniversary at Hotel Casuarina, Ipoh, on 21 December 2025, recognising the dedication of its members, committee, and strategic partners who have made PPCP a leading platform for psychosocial support for patients.

PPCP Chairperson, Mardianah Mohd Yusof, reflected on the association’s journey since its establishment in 2005. Beginning with its first charity hi-tea in 2006, the modest initiative paved the way for fundraising and community support, eventually enabling the establishment of a fully equipped resource centre at Pantai Hospital Ipoh to assist newly diagnosed patients.
“Our journey has not been easy, but the continuous support from Pantai Hospital Ipoh, Malayan Banking Berhad, and other strategic partners has allowed PPCP to grow and make a tangible impact on breast cancer patients,” she said.

Mardianah also highlighted the vital role of PPCP members and active committee members who consistently participate in motivational camps, family days, and awareness programmes, making them the backbone of the association for two decades.
Beyond emotional support, PPCP actively educates women through breast self-examination (BSE) programmes conducted at schools, higher education institutions, villages, and workplaces.
“Knowledge is power. With early awareness, women are better prepared and more confident to face any potential breast cancer diagnosis,” Mardianah explained.

The association also provides post-treatment essentials such as mastectomy bras, silicone prostheses, wigs, arm sleeves, as well as dietary and exercise guides to help patients adjust and lead meaningful lives after treatment.
Over the past 20 years, PPCP has received support from various NGOs, private and public hospitals, including Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation, MAKNA, Himpunan Kanser Se-Malaya, Caritas, Pantai Hospital Manjung, PCSH, KPJ Specialist Ipoh, HRPB, as well as community clubs and associations, enhancing the reach and effectiveness of its awareness and support programmes.
The anniversary celebration was enlivened with dance performances, best-dressed competitions, and active participation from members, reflecting the strong sense of family and dedication that underpins PPCP’s mission to empower breast cancer patients.

Also present were Kavaramma Subramaniyam, Director of the Perak State Women’s Development Office (PPWNP); Jamilah bt Zakaria, Director of the Secretariat for Women and Community Development, Perak; Ms Cheong Siew Fong, COO of Pantai Hospital Ipoh; and PPCP advisor, Dr Sumithra Sivasuntharam.
“We will continue to strive to help more survivors, inspire others, and make a positive impact on society,” she affirmed.
