Thunderstorms and rain are forecast for the two days of the Chinese New Year

IPOH — The Chinese New Year celebrations on February 17 and 18 are expected to take place amid unsettled weather conditions, with thunderstorms and rain forecast to affect several states nationwide.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), rain and thunderstorms are expected in several areas, particularly in the southern region and along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

On the morning of February 17, thunderstorms and rain are forecast in most parts of Johor.

Rain is also expected in several areas in Selangor, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, the Federal Territory of Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Pahang, as well as Sabah and Sarawak.

By afternoon, weather conditions are not expected to improve significantly, with thunderstorms and rain forecast in most areas of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Perak, Pahang and Johor.

Several other areas, including Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak, are also likely to experience rain.

At night, rain and thunderstorms are expected in several places, including Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan, as well as Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak and other states mentioned.

Meanwhile, February 18 is expected to see similar weather conditions, with rain and thunderstorms forecast in several areas, particularly in the afternoon and evening.

However, some areas are also expected to remain dry throughout the day.

The public, especially those planning outdoor activities or travelling for the festive season, is advised to stay alert and monitor the latest weather updates to avoid any potential risks.
