TAIPING — The 2026 Chinese New Year celebration at St George Institution Taiping (SGI) was held in a lively atmosphere with the presence of Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.

He joined the school community in a spirit of goodwill and unity during the celebration.

The event not only enlivened the Chinese New Year festivities but also strengthened the sense of unity and togetherness among students and staff.

In his speech, Wong said celebrations held in schools reflect Malaysia’s unique multicultural and multireligious identity.

“Malay, Chinese and Indian students celebrate together. This is Malaysia,” he said at the event.

During the visit, Wong also announced the approval of a special allocation of RM50,000 for maintenance and repair works on the school’s roof gutter, which was previously reported to have collapsed.

He said the ministry had visited the site with school officials on the day of the incident, and the funding application was processed immediately.

“The safety and comfort of students are always our priority. After the site visit, we expedited the approval so that repair works could be carried out promptly,” he added.

Apart from delivering his address, Wong also spent time interacting with students through a casual quiz session related to education issues and current development.

Students who successfully answered the questions received a special angpau containing RM100 MADANI Book Vouchers, sponsored by Perbadanan Kota Buku.
