MANJUNG: Although operating at Ramadan bazaars, traders and food handlers must comply with stipulated regulations.

This is crucial as proper food handling can prevent risks and safeguard the safety of buyers.

As such, the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) carried out an Integrated Operation at the MPM Stadium Ramadan Bazaar to ensure traders adhere to licence conditions.

The operation also involved the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), the police and the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

According to MPM, the operation aimed to ensure price control, traders’ welfare, as well as food safety and hygiene aspects are consistently observed to protect consumers’ interests.

Inspection results found that 339 traders were operating at the bazaar, covering various categories including kuih sellers, beverage vendors, fried food traders, grilled food sellers and those selling cooked dishes.

“From the aspect of health and food safety compliance, inspections on the Food Handler Certificate found that 279 traders complied with the stipulated requirements, while 60 were found to be non-compliant.

“Meanwhile, for Typhoid vaccination, 311 traders were found to have complied with the regulations, while another 28 had yet to meet the requirement.

“Throughout the operation, all 339 traders were found to be operating at the bazaar,” the statement said.

MPM said it will continue to intensify monitoring and enforcement from time to time to ensure every trader complies with the set conditions.

This includes possession of a valid Food Handler Certificate and Typhoid vaccination.

The continued measures are important to ensure the management of Ramadan bazaars in the Manjung district runs in an orderly, safe manner and in accordance with established guidelines.
