GERIK-  A group of 20 students from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) carried out a one-day community outreach programme at Kampung Sungai Tiang in the Royal Belum area here.

The initiative was organised under the Terrasyn Tech team with guidance from a lecturer at the university’s Department of Integrated Engineering, Azlan Ahmad.

Through the programme, the students planned and conducted STREAM-based learning activities — Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics — for children from the Orang Asli Jahai community.

Creative activities, such as “Colour Battle” and “Design & Build,” were introduced to encourage teamwork, develop fine motor skills, and provide early exposure to basic science and engineering concepts.

A mini aerobics session was also held to promote physical participation and create a more engaging learning environment.

At the same time, the student team contributed 50 boxes of essential items as well as 50 packs of stationery to families and pupils in the village.

Kampung Sungai Tiang is located within the Royal Belum State Park, one of the world’s oldest tropical rainforests.

Communities in the area face geographical and infrastructure challenges that can affect access to educational resources.

As such, the programme was designed to complement classroom learning through a more interactive and engaging approach.
