Clam Theft in Kuala Sepetang Raises Concern, Firm Action Needed

By: Zaki Salleh

KUALA SEPETANG: The persistent issue of clam theft in Kuala Sepetang continues to raise concern among local operators, despite the state government having successfully resolved several administrative matters previously.

Special Officer to the Deputy Prime Minister II, Neow Choo Seong, stated that he had the opportunity to visit the ground and meet with clam operators, hearing firsthand the challenges they face.

According to Neow, who is also the Chief Information Officer of MCA Youth, the Perak government’s efforts in addressing most issues related to Temporary Occupation Licences (TOL) are commendable.

However, the problem of clam theft has yet to be fully resolved. “Although many TOL-related issues have been addressed, clam theft continues, and this is a serious concern for operators,” he said.

He added that the safety of fishermen and operators cannot be taken lightly, as it involves their livelihood and the welfare of the local community.

In this regard, he urged authorities to take firmer and more proactive measures to tackle the issue before any more serious incidents occur.

Kuala Sepetang is one of the key areas for the clam aquaculture industry in Perak. Any disruption to this activity could directly affect both the supply and the local economy.
