Ipoh: A section of Jalan Bercham will be temporarily closed to facilitate drainage upgrading works aimed at flood mitigation in the Bercham Industrial area.

Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI) said in a statement that the road closure will begin on May 1 and is expected to be completed by June 15.
“The project follows frequent flash floods in the area due to the existing drainage system no longer being able to cope with water flow, particularly during heavy rain.
“The temporary closure is necessary to allow for the installation of a box culvert crossing Jalan Bercham.
“It also takes into account risks related to the presence of major existing utilities, namely Gas Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Lembaga Air Perak (LAP), Telekom Malaysia, and Maxis within the construction area,” the statement said.
To ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of road users, traffic diversions will be implemented in stages and in a planned manner.
Motorists heading towards Bercham town will be diverted via Jalan Hala Industri Bercham 1, Hala Industri Bercham 2, and Persiaran Bercham Utara 11.
Meanwhile, traffic heading towards Tambun will use a temporary road constructed within the project site.
The measures are aimed at reducing congestion and ensuring smooth traffic movement throughout the duration of the works.
Road users are advised to remain cautious, comply with temporary signage, follow instructions from on-site personnel, and plan their journeys in advance to avoid inconvenience.
“MBI apologises for any inconvenience caused and hopes the public and road users will understand the implementation of this project for the greater good.
“We are also committed to ensuring the project is completed safely, effectively, and on schedule, particularly in addressing flash flood issues around Jalan Bercham and its surrounding areas,” it added.
