For many B40 families, dental care can easily be pushed aside. When daily expenses take priority, a visit to the dentist often becomes something to delay until pain or discomfort can no longer be ignored.

That is why community outreach programmes matter.

Residents of People’s Housing Project (PPR) Buntong Harmoni and Permai in Ipoh received dental services and oral health support on 17 May 2026 through the Program Pergigian Mesra Rakyat, held at Rumah Pangsa Buntong.

The outreach programme was organised by the Kinta District Dental Health Office, also known as Pejabat Kesihatan Pergigian Daerah (PKPD) Kinta, with support from the Kelab Rukun Tetangga and the PPR Taman Harmoni Buntong and Permai Residents’ Association led by Encik Muhammad Faiz bin Abdullah.

A total of 80 residents took part in the outreach, which brought basic dental services and oral health education closer to the community.

Residents received dental check-ups, selected treatments and practical oral hygiene advice. The programme also included a dental health exhibition, children’s activities and interactive games, making it accessible for families and residents of different ages.

Among the topics shared were dental plaque, proper oral hygiene, healthy diet choices, denture care and oral cancer prevention.

For PPR communities, such programmes can make a practical difference. They reduce the need for residents to travel elsewhere for basic checks and help families understand the value of preventive care before dental problems become serious.

The outreach also created a more approachable setting for residents to ask questions and learn simple habits that can improve long-term oral health.

The PKPD Kinta dental team included Dr Wong Xin Nan, Dr Siti Asmira Jamaluddin, Dr Mugilarasi Chandra Segaran, Dr Nurul Hazwani Shahri, Dr Maryam Adibah Mohd Akhmar, Dr Nazzatul Nazeera Mohd Nazri, Dr Daniel Antonio Edwin Das and Dr Chan Fuon.

They were assisted by Dental Therapist (JP) Siti Roqiyah Abd Rashid, Healthcare Assistant (PPK) Salwana Saleha, PPK Shuheba Yacob and Driving Staff (PK) Zulfadhli Abdul Rahman.

The response from residents was encouraging, with participation from various age groups. It showed that oral health support is needed by children, adults and older residents alike.

For many PPR residents, programmes like this matter because health checks are often postponed while more urgent household needs come first.

This initiative points to the value of strong community partnerships, where residents’ groups, public agencies and local partners work together to bring essential services closer to families who need them most.
