Drainage upgrade project in Taman Kim Lee to benefit residents

By: Zaki Salleh

KUALA KANGSAR: A drainage upgrading project in Taman Kim Lee is now in its final stage of implementation and is expected to bring long-term benefits to residents by improving the area’s drainage and sewerage system.

The RM250,000 project was undertaken to repair and upgrade the existing drainage infrastructure, enhancing water flow efficiency and reducing the risk of drainage-related issues in the residential area.

Construction works began in early April and were initially scheduled for completion within four months.

However, due to close cooperation among all stakeholders and the strong commitment shown by the appointed contractor, the project is expected to be completed ahead of schedule.

The drainage structure had suffered damage and partial collapse over time as a result of prolonged water pressure from nearby septic tanks, compounded by ageing infrastructure.

The deteriorating condition had affected the functionality of the sewerage system and contributed to drainage problems as well as environmental cleanliness concerns in the neighbourhood.

To address the issue, the Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council submitted an application for MARRIS funding to the state government to finance repair works on the collapsed drain.

Following sustained efforts by the relevant authorities, the allocation was approved, enabling the necessary upgrading works to proceed and the long-standing problem to be resolved more effectively.

Residents have also been urged to play their part in maintaining the efficiency of the drainage system by refraining from disposing of rubbish or other objects into drains.

Authorities said public cooperation is essential to prevent clogged drains, reduce the risk of flash floods and minimise water stagnation in residential areas.

Once completed, the project is expected to improve overall environmental conditions, enhance public safety and provide greater comfort for residents in Taman Kim Lee.
