By: Zaki Salleh

MANJUNG – Vale Malaysia and the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) have signed an RM8.1 million Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement development projects over the next five years.

The strategic partnership aims to revitalise public spaces, preserve local heritage, and strengthen the district’s tourism and recreational sectors.

Four key locations have been identified for development: Manjung Lama, Beruas, Teluk Batik, and the MPM Stadium, with each area receiving improvements tailored to its unique character.

Manjung Lama will be enhanced as a heritage food and cultural destination, while Beruas will continue to be developed as a historical tourism hub.

Teluk Batik will undergo upgrades to support sustainable ecotourism, while the MPM Stadium will be transformed into an active lifestyle hub through the development of the SDG Park.

The MoU was signed by Vale Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Edwin Gerard and MPM President Muhammad Faizal Shah Safian Suri.

The ceremony was witnessed by Perak State Executive Councillor for Housing and Local Government, Sandrea Ng.

Muhammad Faizal Shah said the success of the previous phase had demonstrated that the collaboration with Vale had successfully transformed public spaces into more vibrant community destinations.

“Our partnership with Vale has successfully transformed public spaces into vibrant community destinations that celebrate Manjung’s heritage while improving the quality of life for residents.

“Building on the achievements of the previous phase, this renewed collaboration will further strengthen our public spaces, enhance tourism, and create more welcoming and inclusive places for communities to gather.

“This will lay the foundation for a more liveable, resilient, and sustainable Manjung,” he said.

Edwin reaffirmed Vale’s commitment to creating shared value for the community through public space developments that deliver lasting social impact.

The initiative forms part of the Community Development Plan (CDP) 3.0, which focuses on sustainable development and community well-being in Manjung and across Perak.

The renewed partnership is expected to strengthen the district’s local identity, stimulate the local economy, and position Manjung as a more liveable, resilient, and future-ready district.
