IPOH: Taman Madani Canning, once regarded as one of the city’s most beautiful public fields, has been deliberately vandalised, with sections of grass dug up and removed.
Ipoh City Council (MBI) Canning Zone councillor Lam Yew Tact said he had taken note of complaints regarding the damage at the recreational park.
He said the damaged areas had left the field’s surface uneven, posing a risk to the public.
Walking, which should otherwise be a simple activity, could cause people to trip, fall or suffer injuries such as sprained ankles, he said.
“I visited the site today with the MBI Landscape Department to inspect and assess the condition of the area.
“It is very sad to see the condition of this field. Just over a year ago, we worked hard to create what was once regarded as one of the most beautiful fields, namely Taman Madani Canning Edward Morreila.
“First, cables and copper wires were stolen, and now even the grass is being stolen?
“I want to reiterate that this is a public field, not private property, and no one has the right to dig up, remove or damage the grass and public facilities at will.
“Every blade of grass, every tree and every public facility belongs to the community, and we have a responsibility to care for and protect them.
“I hope the police can increase patrols and enforcement in the area. I also urge residents to immediately report any suspicious activities involving damage to or theft of public property,” he said.
Previously, Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic reported complaints from residents regarding the uneven grass surface at Taman Rekreasi Madani Canning, which could pose a danger to children who frequently use the park’s facilities.
A resident of Canning Garden had urged the relevant authorities to monitor and maintain the recreational park more regularly.
