KAMPAR – Eleven academic staff members from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Kampar Campus participated in an Anti-Bullying Programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pengkalan Baharu, Kampung Kepayang, on September 15.
The programme involved 78 Year Six students and aimed to raise awareness about the dangers and impact of bullying.
Project Head Afi Roshezry Abu Bakar, also a Political Science lecturer at UTAR, said the programme aimed to educate students about bullying and ways to prevent it.
He said early exposure was important to ensure students understood that bullying could have an impact on victims and the overall harmony of the school environment.
“Programmes such as this need to be conducted continuously to educate children about bullying and the steps that can be taken to address it,” he said.
The programme was also part of UTAR academic staff’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, focusing particularly on schools in the Kinta district.
In addition to an educational session, students were allowed to interact and seek clarification on bullying situations and prevention measures.
The programme concluded with an information session and question-and-answer session involving the parents of the participating students.
Afi said he hoped similar programmes could be continued at other schools in the Kinta district in the future.
He also hoped the initiative could be expanded to schools outside Kinta to foster a culture of mutual respect and help curb bullying among students.
