The New Year holds a special meaning for Yayasan Bina Upaya Darul Ridzuan (YBU). The foundation, tasked to cater to the needs of the poor and the marginalised in the state, is into its second year of operation. The progress of time does not diminish its desire to be in the forefront of the state government’s welfare-driven programme aimed at eradicating poverty among Perakeans.
To mark the momentous occasion a dinner was held at the Royal Perak Golf Club. Aptly dubbed as “Malam Jutaan Harapan” (Night of a Million Hopes) the event was to honour donors, recipients and staff for their contributions and dedication. Four corporate donors, one of which was Kinta Properties, were on hand to do their part for the foundation. The Ipoh-based property developer donated RM100,000 towards YBU’s kitty. A mock cheque for the said amount was handed over by Dato’ Lim Si Boon’s representative to Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri DiRaja Dr Zambry Abd Kadir who received the money on behalf of the foundation. A total sum of RM5.1 million was collected from well-wishers, big and small. The sum will help fund the foundation’s on-going aid programmes.
The evening also witnessed the handing over of mock keys to five lucky house owners under YBU’s Infra Housing Aid Scheme. Three received micro credits to facilitate their business ventures while four were awarded certificates of appreciation for the prompt repayment of their micro credits. Zambry formally launched the foundation’s bulletin and its work squad.
Among the dignitaries present to grace the occasion were Dato’ Saarani Mohamad, Chairman of YBU and the foundation’s CEO, Dato’ Hj Zainal Abidin Omar.
