Tribute to a Great Star

It is heartening to read in The Star, dated Thursday, March 17, that award-winning action star and Ipoh-born, Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh, has been appointed a United Nations Development Programme Goodwill Ambassador.

This is a great achievement, as Malaysia is being represented by a talented lady who has acclaimed roles in the James Bond movie, “Tomorrow Never Dies”, Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and others.

I remember vividly when she was crowned Miss Malaysia, her first voluntary service was to visit the residents of the Salvation Army Home in Tambun where she gave away goodie bags and food along with the Y’s Men’s Club of Ipoh.

Her late father, Dato’ Yeoh Kian Teck, was also a generous man who helped people from all walks of life. Like father like daughter, I am sure she will continue walking the extra mile to help others.

Let us all congratulate and thank her for her advocacy and philanthropic efforts, which have brought fame to our beloved country.
