An Evening with Coppélia

Involving more than 250 ballet dancers, aged from 6 to 25 years, Ipoh’s Dance Centre presented a ballet extravaganza themed “An Evening with Coppélia”, at Kinta Riverfront Hotel on Tuesday, December 9.
The production, with a matinée and an evening show, raised RM100,000 for charity. The beneficiaries were Sin Chew Newspaper In Education Project and Persatuan Ipoh Bugs. Both received RM40,000 each while Perak Palliative Care Society, RM20,000.
Organising chairperson May Goh Swee Moi, whose daughter learns ballet at the centre, said this was an opportunity for Ipohites to enjoy a ballet performance besides instilling the love for performing art in the young. She continued, “I am also personally passionate about building children’s confidence through stage performance, so this exposure was a good learning process for them. We can see that a lot of effort had been put in to make this production a success.”
With Rhapsody in White as the curtain raiser, the ballerinas and their male counterparts tip-toed and twirled around the stage to multiple genres of music, from modern to Rock ‘n’ Roll, classical orchestra, Disney, Broadway hits, jazz, tango, and even traditional Chinese and Malay classics, setting the tempo for the second part of the production, Coppélia, The Girl With Enamel Eyes, one of the world’s most beloved ballets..
