The Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH) has been offering quality medical services and accessible healthcare to the community since its inception in 1904. We are a not-for-profit hospital that benefits everyone in the community by offering superior medical services through a network of Resident Consultants and backed by teams of paramedics and modernised facilities in different departments.
GENERAL PHYSICIAN (INTERNAL MEDICINE)
Whether you are healthy and would like to maintain your overall wellness or you have a chronic condition to manage, you want a doctor on your side to help you meet whatever health goals you wish to achieve.
In helping you meet this objective, we have three Resident Physicians namely, Dr Loo Chin Sum, Dr Koh Chan Sing, and the newly joined Dr Muhd Mikhail Joseph to attend to patients with such needs. Generally, the types of health conditions that they treat include:
Uncontrolled diabetes with complications
Obesity and metabolic syndromes
Thyrotoxicosis and hypothyroidism
Dengue and infectious diseases
Asthma and respiratory disease
Other general medical disorders
Given the special role of our kidneys to our overall health, any disease or damage that affects them can have long-term, serious effects on our health, ranging from severe high blood pressure to kidney failure. Resident Nephrologist at PCSH, Dr Loo Chin Sum, is renowned for providing meticulous care for kidney patients that are both evidence-based and innovative. He offers appropriate advanced treatments for kidney disease, using a personalized approach to medicine.
Common kidney problems being treated here include hypertension, chronic kidney disease and end stage kidney disease/failure. Apart from that, Dr Loo also handles patients with System Lupus Erythematous (SLE). For kidney patients who need to undergo dialysis, PCSH houses a Dialysis Centre with a total of 18 dialysis stations including 1 in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 1 each for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C patients. The centre is well supported by a team of experienced staff nurses.
Coronary artery disease, vascular heart disease and heart failure are among the most common heart problems faced by Malaysians. Some common symptoms of heart problems include:
Discomfort, pressure, heaviness, or pain in the chest, arm, or below the breastbone
Discomfort radiating to the back, jaw, throat, or arm
Fullness, indigestion, or choking feeling (may feel like heartburn)
Sweating, nausea, vomiting, or dizziness
Extreme weakness, anxiety, or shortness of breath
For patients who are having any health issues with the heart, they can visit the PCSH Resident Cardiologist, Dr Koh Chan Sing, at his clinic. A few simple tests such as the treadmill stress test and echocardiogram will be carried out to better diagnose the heart condition before appropriate medical treatments are presented.
At PCSH, we design our services to promote health, prevent and reduce illness, and to ensure that our community have access to good and affordable healthcare.
