Telecommunication Structures to Be Improved in Perak

The state government via Digital Perak Corporation Holdings (Digital Perak) will be engaging in several efforts to improve telecommunication structures in the state.

According to the Executive Councillor for Youth and Sports, Communication and Multimedia, Khairul Shahril Mohamed, this is to ensure that operational telecommunication structures around Perak adhere to policies set by the state government.

“As a Telecommunication Infrastructure Coordination Agency (APiT), Digital Perak will be responsible for planning, advising, managing, monitoring, auditing and regulating telecommunication infrastructures in the state.

“To heed the advice of the Perak Menteri Besar Dato’ Saarani Mohamad, the state government will be working hand-in-hand with Digital Perak in introducing state and agency-level initiatives to hasten preparation of digital infrastructures.

“Some of them include development of the Telecommunication Infrastructure Management System (TIMS), which eases monitoring and planning of new structures, as well as placement of Telecommunication Infrastructure Identification Plaques.

“The plaques are to be installed at telecommunication tower sites and will contain QR codes scannable by anyone to identify owners or to obtain information relating to the specific tower.”

He told reporters during a media session at Weil Hotel today (April 8). Also present was chief executive officer of Digital Perak, Meor Rezal Fitri Meor Redzuan and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) director, Zairul Nahar Zakaria.

Digital Perak is also in joint effors with the state government and MCMC to implement the Telecommunication Structure Whitelist Programme.

“So far, over 700 applications have been received to be whitelisted.

“Hopefully, more will step forward to assist the government in minimising safety risks and undesirable matters,” Khairul Shahril added.

“These initiatives are projected to spur economic growth in the state by information transmission and digital services efficiency improvement, business costs reduction and an upgrade towards living standards.

“All of these will subsequently become main catalysts in fully maximising a digital economy,” Meor Rezal expressed.
