The Ipoh City Council (MBI) will send a team of volunteers consisting of staff from various departments to help the flood victims in Baling, Kedah.
All preparations have already been done and are just waiting for the green light from the authorities in the field.
The Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud said the humanitarian mission was mobilized out of a sense of responsibility to help residents in the disaster-stricken area.
According to him, the volunteers sent would also assist the local district authorities, especially with the clean-up.
“We are ready with personnel, including those from the enforcement department along with equipment for assisting in their work.
“Once we get permission from the authorities, we will transport these volunteers to the disaster area”, he told the media.
The mayor stressed that it was the responsibility of the MBI to help the people in Baling, who have been struck by disaster.
“God willing, the MBI will be able to help, because we are all family, whether we come from Ipoh, Kedah or any other state.
The flood in Baling has killed three members of a household in Kampung Iboi, including a four-month pregnant woman, after their house was swept away by the currents.
More than 1,400 residents from 93 families are currently housed in three temporary evacuation centres operating around Kupang.
In December of last year, Dato’ Rumaizi also mobilized MBI volunteers to help with the clean up work in flood-affected areas in Selangor and Pahang.
MBI at that time sent a total of 23 members, along with vehicles and aid packs with daily necessities.
