Business Premises Can Be Compounded If They Fail To Display The Jalur Gemilang

All business premises in this city that refuse to comply with the notice to display the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with independence month can be charged with a compound amounting to RM250.

The Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud said this course of action is due to Section 107(2) of the Local Government Act, as not displaying the Jalur Gemilang would be violating the licence conditions as written on the back of every business premises licence.

However, he said that all this time, the Ipoh City Council (MBI) has practised an attitude of tolerance by advising the owners of the permits, rather than imposing a compound.

“For business premises, this evening we will start distributing 6,000 flag installation notices at business premises in Ipoh.

“In addition, the MBI has also installed more than 5,000 Jalur Gemilang on the main roads and around Ipoh city.

“If you don’t install the Jalur Gemilang, it can result in a compound but usually the MBI only advises and rarely compounds. There is still tolerance there,” he said.

Rumaizi said this at a press conference after completing the Ipoh City Council 2022 Jalur Gemilang Flag Launch Ceremony, at Persiaran Bandaraya on Thursday.

More than 1,000 citizens, including Council Members also cheered the launch of the programme.

In the meantime, he added that his party will conduct periodic monitoring after the notice is submitted to the owners of the business premises.

“We will monitor these premises to ensure they comply with the installation instructions.

“We also encourage the residents of Ipoh to put up and fly the Jalur Gemilang to enliven this year’s celebration,” he added.

Rumaizi added that he personally thinks that apart from waving the Jalur Gemilang, awareness about independence also needs to go hand in hand.

He said the appreciation of the values and spirit expressed through the Jalur Gemilang can invigorate the spirit of love for the country.

“For me, the ‘spirit’ of us celebrating independence is also important. Our awareness of what independence is and the struggles of our predecessors to get independence.

The programme which started at 8.30 am at the MBI grounds was graced with various interesting activities in conjunction with the month of independence.

Among them was the parade by the MBI Enforcement team and the presentation and installation of the Jalur Gemilang on MBI’s official vehicles.
