Police searching for motorcyclist riding against the flow on the highway

IPOH: Police are searching for a motorcyclist who went against the flow on the southbound North South Expressway (PLUS) near the North Ipoh Toll Plaza, here yesterday.

Ipoh District Police Chief, ACP Yahaya Hassan said, his party found an article regarding the incident with the title ‘Motosikal lawan arus dirakam ketika siaran langsung FB’ (Motorcycle going against the flow was recorded during a live FB broadcast) on Sunday.

He also said that preliminary investigations found that the recording was taken on July 2 between 11 and 11.15 am during a live broadcast by a journalist at the location to cover the situation of the return of road users on the highway in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha.

“The police take this incident seriously because it shows that there are still road users who do irresponsible acts that cause danger to themselves, as well as other road users.

“Accordingly, an investigation paper has been opened under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which is reckless and dangerous driving.

“If convicted under the provisions of this law, an offender can be sentenced to imprisonment not exceeding five years and a fine of not less than RM5,000,” he told reporters here today.

Therefore, he said, the police also asked for the cooperation of the public who witnessed the incident to contact the Head of Investigation and Traffic Enforcement Division, Ipoh District Police Headquarters, DSP Koo Boon Kuat, on 016-4173222 to assist with the investigation.

Earlier the media reported, a motorcycle was recorded moving against the flow during Sinar Harian’s live Facebook broadcast report on the South North South Highway (PLUS) near the North Ipoh Toll Plaza here on Sunday.

The vehicle was ridden by a man from the exit of the North Ipoh Toll Plaza towards the entrance to the highway.
