IPOH – Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI) has achieved a commendable milestone by successfully cleaning 90% of the 470 illegal dumping sites from January 1 to December 31, 2023.

This accomplishment reflects MBI’s commitment to realizing its goal of making Ipoh the cleanest city. MBI has implemented various programs and initiatives to address the issue of illegal dumping.

In a statement released today, MBI highlighted the introduction of free garden and bulk waste collection services starting in 2021.

A total of 17 open trucks were purchased to facilitate this service, which has been running smoothly and efficiently according to the established schedule.

The statement also mentioned the distribution of free trash bins to residents in Ipoh.

Until last December, a total of 84,547 bins were distributed every weekend, following the Council Member Zone rotation since the program’s introduction in 2021.

Furthermore, the statement noted the installation of 1,670 ‘No Littering’ signs at illegal dumping hotspots from 2021 to December 31 of the same year.

“The more rigorous and frequent operations of the Anti-Litter Unit have successfully curbed illegal dumping, resulting in 1,214 fines totalling RM498,750 as of December last year. Out of this amount, 245 fines totalling RM117,095 have been paid.

“The construction of domestic waste collection centres in rural areas has also contributed to reducing illegal dumping hotspots.

“To date, 13 collection centres have been built, and waste collection is carried out daily,” the statement concluded.
