KUALA LUMPUR: Good news for millions of citizens in conjunction with Eid al-Fitr celebrations as the government has agreed to provide toll-free access for two days on April 8th and 9th for all highway users.

This is for Class 1 vehicles (private) returning to their hometowns for Eid al-Fitr.

Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said toll exemptions will be granted at all toll plazas except at the national border, Sultan Iskandar Building Toll (BSI) and Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza, Johor.

He said that the provision of free toll will be implemented on all highways starting from 12.01 midnight, April 8 (Monday) and will end at 11.59 pm, April 9 (Tuesday).

This decision was made through the Cabinet Meeting on February 7th, aimed at celebrating all citizens, especially the Muslim community celebrating Eid al-Fitr, and as a gesture of concern and sharing joy together with the people of Malaysia.

“For that reason, the government has allocated a total of RM37.6 million to cover the costs of toll exemptions during this Aidilfitri celebration,” he said.

The government’s provision of toll exemptions is a continuation of the same initiative carried out during each festive season.

During the last Chinese New Year, the government also announced toll exemptions for two days to enable people to return to their hometowns.
