QR Codes on Ipoh Heritage Trail Markers Criticised for Ineffectiveness

IPOH: “What is the actual purpose of the QR codes on the Ipoh Heritage Trail markers? They might as well be removed because they don’t help tourists at all,” lamented Hisyam Azam, 36, a visitor from Kuala Lumpur.

Hisyam, who was drawn to Ipoh’s Heritage Trail, said he was disappointed with the functionality of the QR codes displayed on the markers in front of historical buildings.

“I’ve always known Ipoh as a city with many colonial-era buildings, which I learned about through the internet. The architecture is fascinating, but unfortunately, the information is too brief.

“Even more disappointing, the QR codes on the trail markers fail to provide the expected details about the heritage sites,” he told Ipoh Echo and Peraktastic.

Hisyam urged the authorities to ensure the QR codes are functional and link to comprehensive and accurate tourist information.

“Tourists visiting Ipoh feel misled by these QR codes, which don’t deliver any useful information.

“I tried scanning the QR codes for sites such as Ipoh Padang, the Mercantile Bank building, the Chartered Bank building, and the Hong Kong And Shanghai Bank building but none provided accurate or relevant details,” he said.

Visitors have called on the responsible authorities to address this issue promptly, noting that improving the QR code system could significantly enhance the experience for tourists while promoting Ipoh’s heritage more effectively.
